Prof. dr hab. Piotr Sutt – percussionist – soloist and chamber musician, for many years the first percussionist of the Polish Chamber Philharmonic, pedagogue, author of books and interdisciplinary projects combining art̨ with the achievements of science. Founder and leader of the continuously active since 1985 Gdansk Percussion Ensemble and the artistic director of the Bacewicz Percussion Ensemble.
The artist has performed in symphonic and chamber concerts in many European countries and both Americas. Among his artistic achievements he has numerous premieres of works dedicated to the soloist, many of which have been recorded on Polish Radio. Piotr Sutt has collaborated with many distinguished artists, including Pierre Boulez, George Crumb, Steve Reich, Herbert von Karajan, Chuck Mangione, Emmanuel Séjourné, Ney Rosauro, Witold Rowicki, Wojciech Michniewski and Leszek Możdżer.
As a percussionist, he has taken part in the recording of 18 albums by the Polish Chamber Philharmonic, including some nominated for the Fryderyk Awards. In 2007, together with the ISKIERKA Foundation for children with cancer, he established the Children's Oncology Orchestra, which he has managed continuously. Together they have recorded 3 albums and performed with the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the MozART Group, Natalia Kukulska, Paulina Przybysz, Mika Urbaniak, Ralph Kamiński, Grzegorz Turnau and the band Carrantuohill. Since 2013, he has been teaching percussion at the Academy of Music in Łódź as a full professor, where he holds the position of Head of the Percussion Department. Since 2015, he has been the artistic director of the National Percussion Workshop in Gdansk.
He is among the international artists of the Bergerault Company, Angelini Mallets and Innovative Percussion, and since 2023 he has represented Poland in the prestigious International Committee of the Percussive Arts Society in the USA, serving as chairman of the committee. Prof. Piotr Sutt has been awarded the Medal "for Merit to Culture Gloria Artis" and the Medal of the Commission of National Education.
