The establishment of Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Polyphonic Choir on concert stages is the result of introducing “Choir” and “Choir Conducting” courses in the music education curriculum since its foundation in 2001. The choir has participated in Ankara Polyphonic Choirs Festivity Concerts conducted by Prof. Bülent Birol and domestic concerts in various cities. In 2001, the choir attended Festa Musicale Choir Festival/Competition in the Czech Republic with the support of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and was rewarded the runner-up prize in the "Youth Choirs" category representing Mehmet Akif Ersoy University.
“KOROMAKÜ” appears in institutional concerts, but has also performed in different cities singing traditional songs as well as contemporary choir pieces. THe ensembled performed at international workshop concert that was part of Boğaziçi University Choir Festival. The choir also participated in the “SANSEV 1st İstanbul Polyphonic Choirs Festival” in 2013 and was admitted to participate in the “Sing’n joy Vienna International Franz SCHUBERT Choir Competition”.
In 2014, the choir gave concerts at “Pamukkale University Choirs Festival” and at the “International Choirs Festival” hosted by Eastern Mediterranean University. Most recently, the choir performed with the SCA JM Children Choir and TED Antalya Children Choir in Antalya, Burdur and Ankara as part of the “3 Cities-3 Choirs: The Winter Concerts” project. In 2016, KOROMAKÜ participated in the 13th International Choral Festival "Maestro Zachari Mednikarov" in Bulgaria and won the first degree laureate title.
Prof. H. Seval Köse graduated from the department of music at Marmara University in İstanbul majoring music and voice training. Between 1980-1990 Köse worked as a music teacher. During her graduate education, she focused on composing children songs with Prof. Veli Muhatov. In 2006, a book (titled “Şiir’den Şarkıya” – “From Poem to Song”) containing her own compositions (piano accompaniments by Oya Akman Akyildiz) was published. She also did scientific studies on choir conducting with Prof. Suna Çevik and voice training with Prof. Keriman Davran.
In 2001, Prof. Köse was awarded the runner-up prize for conducting SDÜ Polyphonic Choir at the 29th Festa Musicale Olomouc International Choir Competition in Czech Republic. In 2016, KOROMAKÜ conducted by Seval Köse participated in the 13th International Choral Festival "Maestro Zachari Mednikarov" in Bulgaria and won the first degree laureate title.
Prof. Köse currently works at Mehmet Akif Ersoy University in Burdur, Turkey as a member of academic staff. She teaches choir studies and choir conducting courses.
