Its director Nikolaus Indlekofer founded the Chamber Choir of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (former University of Karlsruhe) in 1989. The approximately 25 singers, mainly students of the University of Karlsruhe, work together on works from all stylistic epochs. A special concern of the choir is the music of the 20th century. This is reflected in the choir's extensive repertoire of contemporary choral literature and two world premieres. The Mass in B minor by J. S. Bach, the Messiah by Handel and the Requiem by W. A. Mozart are as much a part of the programme as motets by Schütz and Schein, madrigals by Monteverdi, Gesualdo and Lasso as well as choral works by Brahms, Reger, Hindemith, Britten or Poulenc. The choir is very active in concerts in Karlsruhe and the surrounding area. In addition to a concert tour to the Netherlands and a production for Südwestfunk Baden-Baden, the choir took part in the 1995 International Choir Competition in Budapest. It took second place in the category for mixed choirs and was awarded the Golden Diploma for its good performance. On its 10th anniversary in 1999, the choir was invited on a concert tour to Reykjavik/Iceland, where it gave concerts in the Hallgrimskirche, among other places.
Nikolaus Indlekofer, who grew up in Erzingen in southern Baden, studied school music, violoncello and conducting at the Musikhochschule in Karlsruhe. His teachers were Prof. Annemarie Dengler, Prof. Martin Schmidt, and GMD Erich Wächter. Courses with Wolfgang Seeliger, Wolf-Dieter Hauschild and John Eliot Gardiner complemented his conducting training. While still a student, he conducted various instrumental ensembles, founded a chamber orchestra, conducted the church choir in Pfaffenrot from 1983-1993 and the Karlsruhe Men's and Women's Choir from 1993-1999. Since 1988, he has conducted the choirs of the University of Karlsruhe. Guest conductorships have brought him together with the Marburg Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck and the Symphony Orchestra of the Bielsko-Biala Music High School in Poland. He has worked with renowned soloists such as Lise de la Salle, Boris Giltburg Robert Benz and Jean Philippe Collard. With the University Chamber Choir, Nikolaus Indlekofer came second at the 1995 International Choir Competition in Budapest and received a gold diploma for the outstanding performance. He successfully took part in the choir competitions of the Baden Choir Association in 1998 and 2007 with the KIT Concert Choir and received the title "Master Choir in the Baden Choir Association" for the choir. Indlekofer has worked as a choir director at the University of Karlsruhe since 1988. Since 2008 he has held the post of music director at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the merger of the University and the Karlsruhe Research Centre. In addition to directing the chamber choir, the concert choir and the KIT Philharmonic Orchestra, Nikolaus Indlekofer teaches choral conducting and ensemble conducting at the Karlsruhe University of Music. In the Baden Choral Association, he is a member of the music committee and lecturer in choral conductor training. He teaches at the music school in Ettlingen and conducts the symphony orchestra there.
